ABOUT THIS POSITION

This role can be hybrid out of the Boston area or remote anywhere else in the US.

John Hancock’s more than 30-year track record of backing guaranteed interest contracts and has been a stable value asset manager since 2006. Today, John Hancock offers four stable value products both fee and spread based, which are offered through our Retirement, DCIO and Institutional businesses, amounting in over $5B in AUM.

Provide Risk Analysis expertise along with product development and management support for the stable value products for the John Hancock stable value product suite.

ROLE SUMMARY

In this role you will report into the Head of Stable Value, Retirement and Institutional Investment Products in the Global Wealth Asset Management Division of Manulife Investment Management and John Hancock Investment Management.

On a daily basis you will be working closely cross functionally with our U.S. Retirements Division, John Hancock Investment Management DCIO and the Manulife Investment Management Institutional Distribution Channels supporting the John Hancock Stable Value Product Suite.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Review, understand, and identify risk contributors from stable value product features and contracts
  • Review, understand and analyze retirement plan documents, legal contracts, and investment guidelines.
  • Identify, analyze and make recommendations for mitigation of financial, plan underwriting, investment, and competitive risks within the stable value products
  • Maintain knowledge of industry standard and competitor stable value product features
  • Utilize data warehouse, plan demographics and legal documents to identify, monitor and report on plan specific risk contributors (including modeling, forecasting trending and variance analysis)
  • Underwrite prospective clients for key risk indicators
  • Develop, analyze, and present comprehensive and detailed reports (in PowerPoint, Word, Excel) regarding key risk indicators
  • Communicate and present findings and recommendations on a regular basis to management and senior leaders Supports the key components of the product development life cycle and on-going management including product design, implementation, and effectiveness analysis.
  • Performs competitive research and develops, maintains, and monitors reports on findings.
  • Presents results to senior management.
  • Responds to internal and external product and contract related requests as the subject matter expert.
  • Ad-hoc Strategic Projects, as assigned.
  • Works with US Retirements, actuarial, sales, client management, compliance, legal, systems, and marketing, as needed. Other duties as assigned.   

TYPICAL QUALIFICATIONS

  • 3-5 years’ experience in product development and in the financial services industry Stable Value or Fixed Income Retirement Products
  • CFA, or seeks to attain their CFA, and a BS/BA Finance or Economics is highly desirable
  • Experience Preferred Advanced proficiency in MS Office tools and data mining tools
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, including demonstrated ability to present to all levels of organizational management Intermediate to advanced MS Office skills required; advanced Excel skills required
  • Working knowledge of US GAAP and US Statutory accounting for Life & Health Insurance companies and/or Financial Services organizations preferred
  • Excellent problem-solving skills
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills
  • Ability to manage department workload and proactively identify projects as necessary
  • Work well with internal and external teams.
