The quarterly publication of the Stable Value Investment Association
Fourth Quarter 2003 • Volume 7 Issue 4
Editor's Corner
By Greg Wilensky, Alliance Capital Management
In a tradition as old as the Stable Times itself, our closing issue for 2003 focuses on the recent SVIA conference: The Bear, The Boomers, and Stable Value. While the baseball playoffs did not work out quite the way most of the conference attendees had hoped (I remember a lot of cheering for the Yankees, Red Sox and Cubs. I believe Marlin fans were a substantial minority.) the conference itself played out like a well orchestrated game.
With the tight playoffs in the background (including a poorly scheduled game that started while the conference was still in session; thankfully, periodic box scores were provided), freelance journalist, Randy Myers, joined us again to provide the highlights for the Stable Times. While Stable Times probably will not be confused for Chris Berman's "The Fastest Three Minutes in Television," I doubt Chris Berman could cover the finer points of the funding gap for defined benefit plans or the development of inflation protected securities as well as Randy.
So whether you were not able to make it to Washington for the conference or you missed a session because you were:
- Networking in the anteroom,
- Using the fabulous fitness center at the hotel, or
- Listening to the baseball game on the radio,
This issue of Stable Times is for you.
For those of you who missed the conference this year, my advice, which would be familiar to my wife, a long suffering Chicago Cub fan that is trying to pass this religion onto our children, as well as many of the other conference attendees, is "there is always next year." While I would not get my hopes to high for next year's baseball season, if I were a Cub or Red Sox fan, I would bet that next year's conference on October 12-14, 2004 will be a winner.
