The quarterly publication of the Stable Value Investment Association
Third Quarter 2003 • Volume 7 Issue 3
Editor's Corner
By Wendy Cupps, PIMCO
For this edition of Stable Times we wanted to reach out to our membership for their thoughts and opinions on topics of current interest to them. One such topic that seems to be on all of our minds these days is when and how much interest rates may rise from current low levels, and what are Stable Value managers doing in response. SVIA conducted a brief poll of Stable Value managers and plans sponsors to see what they were anticipating, and the results of that poll are included in this issue. We have also included results of the Seventh Annual Stable Value Funds' Investment and Policy Survey, which provides comprehensive information about the assets and portfolios of Stable Value Funds offered in defined contribution plans.
Matthew Lederman from Banc of America LLC provides us with an interesting article that discusses the value that CDOs can provide as an investment within Stable Value funds. And Chris Tobe from AEGON Institutional Markets provides his insights on whether wrapper capacity is an issue.
We round out the issue with articles about Stable Value use in defined benefit plans and a look at lump sum distributions and their implications on retirement security and policy.
As always we encourage you to contact us with ideas for topics you would like us to address, or better yet, with articles that express your insights on important Stable Value and retirement savings issues.
